Feynman diagrams provide a visual tool we can use to determine the types of terms that must appear in the interaction Hamiltonian. Unfortunately, interacting systems are typically described by equations that are too difficult to solve exactly. This leads us to consider the techniques of perturbation theory that allow us to develop approximate solutions.
